Koto at The Point: Guest to Owner Story

Last year, we handed over another set of cabin keys – this time to Andy and Anne, who have been holidaying with us at The Point for over 20 years.

Having watched their three sons grow up with Polzeath as their annual holiday destination, their journey from loyal guests to Koto cabin owners felt like a natural next chapter. We caught up with them in The Bear Bar to hear more about what inspired the move from holidaymaker to homeowner.

You first discovered The Point as holiday guests. What kept drawing you back year after year?

“It always felt like a home from home,” says Anne. Combining an ideal position just inland from the breathtaking coastlines with the high-spec finish of the properties and the benefit of having everything in one place – accommodation, golf course, restaurant, swimming pool and leisure facilities – The Point quickly became their regular family holiday hub.

With busy work and family schedules at home, trips to The Point quickly became a chance to slow down. After the drive from Hertfordshire, the calm of the coast would set in almost immediately.

Days were spent exploring nearby beaches, bodyboarding and surfing, along with making the most of the golf and other activities at The Point. Being able to step out of the door for a dog walk or a jog along the coastal paths towards Daymer Bay and Brae Hill was a huge part of the appeal.

When did a holiday destination start to feel like something more permanent?

For the past five years, the idea of owning somewhere in North Cornwall had been something the couple kept coming back to. “We’ve always visited so often that it just made sense,” Andy explains. “We wanted somewhere permanent – somewhere we could leave our things, arrive whenever it suited us, and not feel like we had to squeeze everything into one week.”

They explored properties closer to the beaches, but what ultimately drew them to the Koto cabins was the peace of mind – and familiarity – that comes with owning at The Point. “The team look after everything. The gardens are maintained, the cabin can be cleaned before we arrive, and the maintenance team are on-site if anything goes wrong. That reassurance gave us the confidence to take the plunge.”

They describe buying their cabin as a retirement gift to themselves – an investment in a new lifestyle.

What stood out when you first saw the Koto cabins?

“We were genuinely surprised,” Anne admits. Light-filled, luxurious and impeccably finished, the cabins immediately impressed. The scale and quality felt on par, if not better, with the apartments at The Point – spacious, thoughtfully designed and beautifully detailed.

“Standing at the front window and seeing the sea and glimpses of the estuary, we just thought: yes.” They also explained that they were drawn by the sense of community. Set within walking distance of Polzeath Beach and moments from The Point’s facilities, the cabins offer both privacy and connection. “We’ve been fortunate enough to travel and visit many places and experience cultures in a number of countries over the years,” Andy reflects, “but this feels like our anchor.”

What was the buying journey like?

“Easy,” they both say, without hesitation. Having known Jeremy and Eva for years as returning guests, the process felt personal and transparent from the outset. They were introduced to existing cabin owners to hear first-hand experiences and were reassured that no question was too small. “We felt looked after the whole way through.”

The ability to personalise their cabin also made the experience special. They chose to add a wood-burner – perfect for winter weekends by the fire – and skylights: “I love lying in the bath and looking up at the stars,” Anne says.

What do you love most about owning now you’re here?

“Flexibility. If the forecast looks good, we just drive down. We can leave at 5am, arrive by mid-morning, pop the kettle on and start our day. There’s no waiting for check-in – it’s completely on our terms.”

The golf membership has become an added bonus too. As Andy puts it, the course has had “significant investment over the past decade, creating a bit of a hidden gem.” While family traditions continue with water taxi trips to Padstow, long coastal walks with the dog, swims in the pool and late lunches in the Bear Bar – “It’s easy. Relaxed. Ours.”

What are you most looking forward to in the years ahead?

Spring mornings with the doors open and coffee on the terrace. Unhurried weekends and entertaining friends. Time spent in the Health Club, on the padel courts or out on the course.

“The biggest difference,” Anne explains, “is that we don’t feel like we have to fit everything into one trip anymore. If we don’t make it to a restaurant or manage to visit Port Isaac, we just say – we’ll do that next time. And next time might only be a fortnight away.” For them, ownership means freedom – and a place that feels completely, comfortably theirs.

What would you say to someone considering ownership?

“Go for it,” Anne says without hesitation.
