North Cornwall: as seen on “Being Gordon Ramsay”

If, like us, you’ve been watching the new documentary following Gordon Ramsay as he opens the latest of his restaurant ventures at the top of Bishop’s Gate, you’ll also have caught glimpses of his North Cornwall bolthole. To save you searching for the filming locations, we’ve rounded up the spots featured in the series, so you can experience the very best of the coast when holidaying in Rock, Polzeath and Daymer Bay.

1. Polzeath Beach

It’s no surprise Polzeath Beach made it onto Gordon’s North Cornwall itinerary. Renowned for its golden sands, family-friendly surf and excellent local instructors, it’s the perfect place to take your first dip in the Atlantic.

On the show, Gordon and his family were guided into the waves by the team at George’s Surf School – an experience we often recommend to guests holidaying here.

2. The Camel Trail, Padstow

The Camel Trail is a firm favourite for families visiting North Cornwall. Stretching 18 miles from Bodmin Moor to Padstow, it offers a safe, flat cycling route suitable for all ages.

In the documentary, the Ramsay family are seen pedalling along the trail – perhaps on the hunt for a traditional Cornish pasty to enjoy by the harbour in Padstow, a ritual shared by many who holiday on this stretch of coast.

3. Rock Beach

Rock Beach, one of Cornwall’s most iconic stretches of sand, was another feature in the documentary. Backed by dunes and dog-friendly year-round, it’s home to the famous water taxi crossing to Padstow.

During the summer months, you’ll often see Camel Ski School launching from the shore, while Wavehunters head out from Padstow Harbour in search of dolphins. Whether you’re swimming, rock pooling or simply soaking up the estuary views, Rock Beach is a must-visit when staying in one of our self-catering homes.

Once back on shore, stop by Four Boys for supper overlooking the water, or wander further along Rock Road for coffee and cake at sister-business Fee’s Food. The beach also links into the scenic South West Coast Path, winding towards Daymer Bay and Polzeath – ideal for wildlife spotting and gentle dog walks.

4. The Mariners, Rock

It wouldn’t be a Gordon Ramsay guide to Rock without a pitstop at The Mariners. Owned and run by his friend Paul Ainsworth, this acclaimed restaurant is known for exceptional food, drinks and estuary views.

Booking ahead is essential, as tables are often secured weeks in advance – and it’s no surprise once you see it has the Ramsays’ seal of approval. Expect fresh Porthilly oysters, hearty Sunday roasts, classic fish and chips, alongside dedicated gluten-free, dairy-free, vegan and vegetarian menus.

5. Port Quin

Just a short drive from Polzeath, and before you reach Port Isaac, lies Port Quin – a secluded rocky cove perfect for a quieter day on the water. In the documentary, Gordon and Paul Ainsworth brave a cold-water swim here.

The sheltered inlet offers calmer conditions than neighbouring beaches, making it ideal for swimming, kayaking and paddleboarding. If you’d prefer to head out with expert guidance, Cornish Coast Adventures offer two-hour family sessions – with a sauna back on shore to warm up in afterwards.

Whether you’re drawn by the surf, the coastal scenery or the foodie hotspots featured in Being Gordon Ramsay, North Cornwall delivers unforgettable family holidays year after year.
