Baby and toddler-friendly activities in North Cornwall

Planning your first family holiday to Cornwall with a baby or toddler in tow? You may be wondering where to go, what to book and which days out will feel genuinely manageable with little ones.

The good news is that North Cornwall is a brilliant place for young families. Around Rock, Polzeath and Daymer Bay, you’ll find sandy beaches, buggy-friendly walks, farm parks, soft play, cafés, animal encounters and plenty of places to slow down between adventures.

To help with your planning, we asked the wider team at The Point for their favourite baby and toddler-friendly activities in North Cornwall. As a local team, with plenty of parents among us, these are the places we’d recommend for gentle days out, rainy afternoons and memory-making moments with your smallest holidaymakers.

1. Macdonald’s Farm, Porthcothan

Located near Porthcothan, not far from Padstow, Macdonald’s Farm is a lovely choice for a relaxed family day out on the north coast.

Little ones can meet animals including rabbits, guinea pigs, pigs, ponies, goats, chickens and alpacas, while the play areas offer plenty of space for toddlers to explore. There’s a sand playground with swings, slides and trampolines, a toddler area with ride-on cars, a sand mud kitchen and a playhouse designed especially for under-fives.

It’s the kind of place where you can take things slowly, moving between animals, play areas and food stops without needing to over-plan. There’s also an indoor café and bar area with a terrace, making it easy to pause for coffee, lunch or something sweet. If you’re visiting later in the day, stay for food – their wood-fired pizzas are well worth making time for.

2. Camel Creek, near Wadebridge

Camel Creek is one of Cornwall’s best-known family attractions and can be found near Wadebridge, making it a good option for those staying in Rock, Daymer Bay or Polzeath.

While older children will love the rides and bigger play areas, Camel Creek is also well set up for younger visitors. There’s soft play, outdoor playgrounds, animal encounters, pony experiences, a pets paddock and plenty of space to wander with a pushchair.

During term time, their Toddler Takeover sessions are designed especially for young children and their families. These quieter weekday sessions focus on indoor activities, play areas, cafés, outdoor playgrounds and animal meet-and-greets, making them a great choice if you’re visiting with babies, toddlers or pre-schoolers.

Over the summer holidays, Camel Creek also hosts Kids Fest, with live entertainment, family activities, face painting, games and fireworks on selected dates. Food and drink options include The Playhouse Kitchen, Hidden Garden Café, a doughnut shack and an ice cream hut, so there are plenty of options for little appetites along the way.

3. Trevathan Farm, near Port Isaac

Close to Polzeath and not far from Port Isaac, Trevathan Farm is a brilliant choice for toddlers who love animals, tractors and being outdoors.

Families can meet and feed the animals, enjoy tractor rides, explore the children’s outdoor play area and spend time on a working Cornish farm. It’s relaxed, welcoming and wonderfully simple – exactly what you want when holidaying with younger children.

Trevathan is also known for its farm-to-table produce, so we’d recommend tying your visit in with lunch or a stop at the farm shop. Pick up provisions for your holiday home, or sit down for a cream tea made with their homegrown strawberry jam.

4. Pencarrow House and Gardens, near Bodmin

For an easy-going garden day with a café stop built in, Pencarrow House and Gardens is a lovely option.

Set between Wadebridge and Bodmin, this Grade II listed Georgian house is surrounded by beautiful gardens, woodland walks and open spaces that work well for families with young children. The natural play area is a particular highlight, complete with a slate-roofed Wendy house.

The Peacock Café serves freshly made food using local Cornish produce, with options often including homemade soup, quiche, sandwiches, ploughman’s lunches, cream teas and homemade cakes.

Pencarrow also hosts family-friendly events throughout the year, including its annual Teddy Bears’ Picnic, so it’s worth checking what’s on before you visit.

5. Screech Owl Sanctuary, near Indian Queens

Located on the edge of Goss Moor, Screech Owl Sanctuary is a great day out for little animal lovers. The sanctuary has won multiple tourism awards and gives children the chance to see owls, birds of prey and other animals up close, while also learning more about rescue, rehabilitation and conservation. Flying displays are a highlight, giving visitors the chance to see the birds in action.

As well as owls and birds, you’ll also find animals such as alpacas, emus, meerkats, pygmy goats and raccoons. The site is designed to be accessible, making it suitable for prams, pushchairs and buggies, and there’s also Tiggy’s Tea Room and a children’s play area for when little legs need a break.

6. Lanhydrock, near Bodmin

A National Trust day out is always a good idea with little ones, and Lanhydrock is one of the best nearby. Set on the outskirts of Bodmin, Lanhydrock is a grand Victorian country house surrounded by gardens, parkland, woodland walks, cafés and family-friendly facilities. From the car park, you can make your way down the driveway and explore much of the estate with ease, with step-free routes and accessible information available for those visiting with pushchairs or buggies.

The house itself is well worth visiting, with each room telling a different story of life at Lanhydrock. Younger children may especially enjoy the family-focused areas, while grown-ups can take in the grand hall, kitchens and beautifully preserved interiors.

There’s a café close to the house for cream teas, ice creams and sunny pitstops, as well as another café near the playground serving breakfasts, lunches, hot chocolates, soups and cakes. Baby-changing facilities and indoor seating make it a useful option for families, especially on changeable weather days.

You can also extend your visit by hiring bikes and exploring the cycle trails, or heading to nearby Respryn for a buggy-friendly woodland walk along the River Fowey. It’s a peaceful place for a slower stroll, with plenty of shade, riverside views and, if you go far enough towards Bodmin Parkway, the occasional glimpse of a steam train.

7. Super Tramp Bodmin

Super Tramp Bodmin is a great option for rainy days or moments when little ones need to burn off some energy. Alongside the trampoline park, there’s soft play for younger children, with bookable sessions available in one or two-hour slots.

Their Tots Club sessions are designed for under-fives, making it a good choice for babies, toddlers and pre-schoolers who need space to climb, crawl and play in a safe indoor setting.

There’s also a café on site, so you can enjoy a coffee and cake while little ones make the most of the play area.

8. Hidden Valley, near Launceston

A little further afield on the way to Launceston, Hidden Valley is a puzzle park set among trees, gardens and winding trails. It can be a lovely option for families heading home after a self-catering stay, or for those happy to travel a little further for a full day out.

Families can follow puzzle trails, explore the maze, visit the magical village of Tremuddlewick, hop aboard the train and discover play areas dotted throughout the site. Nestled among the trees at the base of the windmill, Tremuddlewick is especially fun for younger children, with plenty of whimsical details to spot.

The clues are updated regularly, so returning families can enjoy new challenges year after year. With gravel paths throughout much of the park, Hidden Valley recommends carriers or all-terrain buggies and pushchairs for younger children.
